01 / Leadership philosophy
Lead where
others don’t look.
The work is rarely hidden. It is simply happening in places that are easy to overlook: the classroom doorway, the data nobody wants to discuss, the student who needs one adult to notice, and the teacher who needs permission to try again.
My approach is grounded in selfless leadership, clear systems, useful data, strong relationships, and the conviction that accountability should be a tool for improvement—not a substitute for leadership.

Never lose
the who.
Scores matter. Systems matter. Policy matters. But none of them gets to become more important than the student standing in front of us. The best evidence of leadership is what people are able to do because the culture, expectations, and support around them changed.

My ongoing scholarly interests include educational leadership, accountability policy, adolescent literacy, school turnaround, data-informed improvement, and the space where state policy becomes daily practice for principals and teachers.
